Director and comedian Ernest Prakasa is learning the hard way that everything spoken bears consequences.
The 35-year-old star’s recent comment on Twitter has lost him an ad contract from Sido Muncul, the producer of the herbal medicine drink Tolak Angin.
“[Our] contract with Ernerst will be over soon and Ernest has personally apologized to us,” Sido Muncul said on the company’s twitter account as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The announcement is the latest blow to Ernest’s Twitter life. The star has often been criticized by the public for posting supposedly irresponsible comments on social media.
In one of his tweets, he questioned a meeting between Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Indian Muslim preacher Zakir Naik, calling the latter a financier for ISIS.
Ernest’s tweet backfired after many people criticized his baseless accusation.
Ernest then apologized and deleted the tweet. But his apology did not calm the situation. A hashtag spread on social media calling on people to ban Tolak Angin, which prompted the company to cancel his contract.
